    Correspondence

CORRESPONDENCE is a book composed by its author, John Cairns, from the correspondence he instigated in the 1960s with Betty Clark, a Scottish poet and playwright who wrote under the pseudonym of Joan Ure.

Although Betty’s letters are in her own married name, they contain many poems and pieces she intended for publication. Her letters are as well-crafted as her public work, and, entrusted to John's use. A selection from them makes up large part of this book, which is to her memory, and capstone to her literary career.

Many prominent contemporaries are referred to in Correspondence, most extensively the poet, Ian Hamilton Finlay, her lover
